NEW COMICS EVE!
HELLO ALL!
Well it's been a while almost 3 months to the day since we opened the doors to you but goodness it feels forever.I spent a couple of days last week setting the shop up for trading safety and I was really concerned that we would shatter the ambience of the store and replace it with a crime scene.
It's actually pretty fine-so what's the new procedure to get into the building to get at those
NEW COMICS!
1 Limit of 3 customers in the store and only 1 customer upstairs at any time.
(As a consequence of this you may experience a hopefully short wait outside)
2 To manage this we have a nifty retractable door gate that will be opened and closed by a
member of staff.
3 We have a sensor activated hand sanitiser unit immediately to your left as you walk in.
4 Colourful floor markings highlight the one way system around the store.
5 We have 'Sneeze screens' at the till and Standing order counter upstairs.
6 All staff will be wearing masks and while we are not insisting that you do it we would
encourage it because it's a mask and mask's are cool.
7 We will be wiping and cleaning and buffing until we sparkle.
I think that covers it for now.
Hope it's not to awkward although it probably will be weird but weird is OK in my book.

Ok I'm going to keep this super brief 'cause we have SO much to do before Wednesday 11am but a couple of housekeeping bits.
DC and Diamond UK have come to an agreement to continue distributing comics in the UK through until December 31st-now that's a MASSIVE relief.
As of July 1st Diamond will be shipping NEW COMICS WEEKLY again so that's GREAT!
They may not turn up until the Wednesday of each week but we will let you know on social media what time the first floor will open each week.
THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO ADDED TO THEIR STANDING ORDER IT REALLY MEANS SO MUCH TO US.
I really wasn't kidding about cutting shelf titles so again PLEASE PLEASE think of setting up an order if you want to get all the comics you love and support US& Diamond & The Industry because we are all FAR from out of the woods yet.

Hello again!
Well we are getting very close to our reopening so I think it's about time that you had our solid plans in one place so here we go!
(Wow! When we open it would have been 3 months almost to the day since we last opened our doors.)

of Wednesday 24th
Just let me know after Friday 19th June because at that point we would have seen the invoice for all stock shipping for the 24th and can give you an accurate total.
This would work by me sending you an itemised list of all comics that we are holding for you on standing order and once you confirm that it's correct or would like to add or subtract titles I'll send you a PayPal invoice link and once it's paid you can just come over to the store and pick up
without having to hang around in a queue-

the aforementioned will be short because we are limiting
3 CUSTOMERS MAXIMUM
in the store at any one time.
&
only 1 customer upstairs at a time.
I know it's a super pain but the layout/size of the shop dictates that and I hope you understand that's it's for everyone's safety to keep a 2 metre social distance wherever possible.
We will have a member of staff managing the door to make this new social awkward totalitarian dictate as stress free as possible.
We will all be sporting Dave's Comics masks and will be wiping down surfaces & shelves & doorknobs & just about everything throughout the day so please forgive the lemony zest that will be permeating within our walls and no doubt wafting down Sydney Street and beyond.
(We would LOVE to see your masks home made/shop bought whatever but your forgiven if you forget to pack one.)

Now in closing you may have been aware of the news that broke over the weekend regarding
DC COMICS decision to stop using DIAMOND US&UK as a distributor.
Two new Distributors have got the exclusive distribution rights worldwide and we are currently in the process of applying for an account with Lunar Distribution.
Lunar are trying to figure out how they can best serve the UK with timely and most important of all
affordable shipping and hopefully the next time I post all of this will be sorted.

Hello again
Hope your all safe and ALERT! as we creep towards our reopening and the UK supply chain for new comics back to some semblance of normality.
Since I last posted Diamond have announced that they will start to ship new comics every TWO weeks as opposed to the weekly schedule we have known and loved.
So the first regular delivery will be shipping on the 27th May in the UK.
We have received the legendary 25th March delivery and I've processed all of your standing orders
and the full shipped product follows.

Thanks to everyone who has offered to pay in advance of reopening and in addition tweak add/subtract from their standing orders and a VERY special thanks to those who have set up new standing orders with us-it really means a lot.
Ok here is Diamonds memo on the changes to shipping
Taking each aspect into consideration we can confirm that we will be shipping new product fortnightly from May 27th until the end of June. At this point, we will reassess the situation for July.
With this revised schedule we are confident that we can provide the safety measures required for our staff and meet social distancing guidance whilst still ensuring a routine regular release of product to you. We also feel that this approach will greatly help with the proposed gradual easing of the lockdown throughout June.
Our dates for delivery/ UK Street date – on sale will be:
Wednesday May 27th
Wednesday June 10th
Wednesday June 24th

Hope your as anxiety free as one can be in this new reality.
Everyone here is doing fine and we are all in touch,
healthy and keeping our social distance from the world.
The Comics Industry?
Hmm that's a different matter all together.
There is A LOT of moving pieces in the industry at the moment from publishers to distributors
and its impossible to predict what the outcome will be.
The big not great news came out that Diamond have decided to withhold payment to Comic
and Game suppliers.
In case you didn't know Diamond have a sister company Alliance that distributes Board games and collectible card games such as Magic the Gathering.
This is not a great situation what with Marvel and DC accounting for 80% of all new comics sold.

For fans who were collecting in the 90's this is familiar ground with the 'Distributor Wars' between Capital City
Heroes World and Diamond-who eventually emerged victorious.

April 5, 1980: Capital City Distribution incorporates in Madison, Wis.
Feb. 1, 1982: Steve Geppi founds Diamond Comic Distributors.
1984: Capital City Distribution begins publishing indexed preorder figures in its Internal Correspondence newsletter. Diamond Comic Distributors would follow much later, in its Diamond Dialogue magazine.
1987: DC comics stops sending subscription copies Second Class, so it stops printing circulation figures.
1988: Diamond purchases Bud Plant Inc., a major West Coast distributor, giving it a national reach for the first time.
Sept. 18, 1992: Diamond announces the acquisition of Titan Distributors, the United Kingdom's largest comics distributor.
May 29, 1994: After Marvel breaks ties with regional distributor Comics Unlimited following that distributor's public criticism of Marvel's mail order "Marvel Mart" circular, Diamond acquires the assets and liabilities of Comics Unlimited.
Aug. 1, 1995: Marvel begins exclusively distributing comics to comics shops through its own distributor, Heroes World Distribution.
July 1996: Diamond Comic Distributors absorbs Capital City Distribution. Its reports now covered most of the non-Marvel comics shop sales.
April 1997: Marvel folded Heroes World and returned its sales to Diamond. Diamond's sales reports thereafter covered most of the comics ordered by comics shops.
We really are just spectators as these ancient Kaiju bloody the waters.
We are probably a good while off from regular shipments
of new comics into the UK I'm afraid to say-
but we will keep you posted.

Well that was week one of the lock-down out of the way.
I hope that between the uncertainty and anxiety you
dived into some exquisite sequential treasures.
Wednesday felt very odd
without shelves of fresh comic temptations
but this is but a wee pause.
