i feel so much solidarity w/ women without fathers, you learn not to mention your past- abuse and absence- after just the assumption of “daddy issues” gets used time and time again as leverage against you. men have a habit of reducing your character to the scars you bear from the misgrievances of your father, they find a way to make your hardships about them. how you “just need someone to fill that role”, a presumed desperation. so you don’t talk about it, you don’t want a life defined by someone else’s mistakes. it’s hard.

a priest (of all people, god) once said 2 me: “you don’t have to pay penance for the sins of your father- don’t be a martyr for a lost cause” and i live by that. we have nothing to atone for- the weight of their actions was never ours to bear.
