March 2018 Solicits

The holidays and 'best of' lists and other stuff has really delayed some of the usual monthly posts I schedule here. Last month's solicits are almost a month old. So I figured better late than never. So here are March's solicits. Feel free to look back and find other sites who posted them all.

SUPERGIRL #19
Written by STEVE ORLANDO and VITA AYALA
Art by JAMAL CAMPBELL • Cover by JORGE JIMENEZ
Variant cover by STANLEY “ARTGERM” LAU
In his search to write a CatCo piece on the truth about Supergirl, Ben Rubel interviews a young kid named Lee Serano, who recently became friends with the Girl of Steel. As Lee struggles with their parents and bullies at school for acceptance as non-binary, Supergirl is caught between punching her way through the problem and standing beside Lee as a symbol of hope.

New co-writer.
New artist.
Socially relevant topic.

Hoping this side story doesn't derail the momentum of the plots building in the book. Hoping this is story first. Orlando has tweeted how much he loves this issue so I am expecting something important and wonderful.

ACTION COMICS #999
Written by DAN JURGENS
Art and cover by BRETT BOOTH and NORM RAPMUND
Variant cover by FRANCIS MANAPUL
“The General”! Superman’s journey through time has crashed to a halt, and at the end of the line General Sam Lane stands face to face for the first time with his grandson, Jon. Buckle up, because the most awkward super-family reunion in history is about to begin!

Action Comics #1000 delayed a month to be finished or align with some anniversary and I'm okay with that. It's a big deal.

I am a bit irked that we are still going to be time traveling two months from now. Can we end this arc??

SUPERMAN #42
Written by PETER J. TOMASI and PATRICK GLEASON
Art and cover by PATRICK GLEASON
Variant cover by JONBOY MEYERS
“BOYzarro RE-DEATH” part one! It’s a bizarre, Boyzarro world—and we just live in it! When Superboy comes face to face with Boyzarro, the Son of Bizzaro, a strange transformation begins to take place. But that’s not all that the Kents have knocking on their door! Superman versus Bizarro round one am not just the beginning!

SUPERMAN #43
Written by PETER J. TOMASI and PATRICK GLEASON
Art and cover by PATRICK GLEASON
Variant cover by JONBOY MEYERS
“BOYzarro RE-DEATH” part two! What do you get when you try to fit a boy from a square planet into a round one? Boyzarro! Superboy and Kathy try to keep the lid on their Bizarro-sized can of worms as Boyzarro tears a rage-filled path of destruction from Metropolis to Hamilton and beyond! But what happens when Superman and Bizarro find out what their kids have been up to?

Boyzarro is a brilliant name.
And I love Bizarro stories in general so I am pumped for this. Sounds like a hoot!
And love the American Gothic cover. Farmhouse ablaze!

SUPER SONS #14
Written by PETER J. TOMASI
Art by CARLO BARBERI and ART THIBERT
Cover by JORGE JIMENEZ
Variant cover by DUSTIN NGUYEN
“MOTHER’S DAY” part two! Talia al Ghul is back in Damian’s life, for better and for worse! As the world’s deadliest mom forces Robin to make the ultimate choice between his past and future, Superboy finds himself caught in the middle. But the specter of Damian’s murderous past life has shaken the bond between the Super Sons, and the body count is far from final.

Just when I think Damian is taking a harder turn to the light (no doubt because of Jon's friendship), the scab is ripped away and his dark past is exposed.

I am a Talia fan. I think Damian is going to do the right thing here. And I hope Jon is there to support, not desert his new friend.

Carlo Barberi art is a bonus!

NEW SUPER-MAN AND THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF CHINA #21
Written by GENE LUEN YANG
Art by BRENT PEEPLES and MATT SANTORELLI
Cover by PHILIP TAN
Variant cover by BERNARD CHANG
“Seas of Change” part two! The Justice League of China is on its own and restoring balance to the world one problem at a time. But when a fleet of North Korean warships arrives on their shores hunting down an emerging aquatic metahuman, Kong Kenan and his friends may be in over their heads—literally! The saga of the Aqua-Man of North Korea continues here!

The Aquaman of North Korea is worth the cost alone. Fun idea.

I'll have to see if this JLC book maintains the joy that New Super-Man brought me.

SUPERGIRL VOL. 3: GIRL OF NO TOMORROW TP
Written by STEVE ORLANDO
Art by ROBSON ROCHA, JOSE LUIS, STEVE PUGH and others
Cover by ROBSON ROCHA and DANIEL HENRIQUES
Emerald Empress’ attack on Supergirl begins as her new Fatal Five assembles. Empress’ plan to destroy Supergirl’s present to preserve her future goes into full swing as Supergirl tries to hold her own—but soon even her abilities are out of her control. Guest-starring New Super-Man! Collects issues #12-14 and SUPERGIRL ANNUAL #1.

And for those who missed the these issues the first time around, there's a new trade coming out.
3 issues and an annual seems pretty thin. I hope we get covers, script pages, etc. to fatten this up a bit. Or how about a foreword!!

Pretty lean month. Thank goodness spring will be around the corner.
