Supergirl Show 218: Ace Reporter Preview
I always wonder just how networks decide when they are going to take a break between episodes. Like why is Supergirl taking a 3 week break now? Last episode was one of the best and momentum is gathering. So why hit the brake?
I would have taken the break after the episode before, when Kara broke up with Mon-El. Take three weeks off then and you might give the vibe that the break-up was longer than a mere 23.5 hours. I know, you would need to coordinate with the Flash musical episode. But this seemed like an odd choice.
Anyways, I was pretty disappointed last Monday when there was no new episode. So I had to bide my time by looking at the trailer for episode 218, the next episode in the queue. Here is a link to the trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Yg0ai80fFA
It is a doozy of a preview and you better have your finger on the pause button because there are a lot of quick cuts.
The episode is titled Ace Reporter and throughout the trailer we get a statement, 'How far would you go for love, for justice, for truth.'
We know the villain is one of Lena's ex, played by iZombie actor Rahul Kohli. We see glimpses of him, one kissing Lena.
And then we get a voiceover saying 'Kara Danvers, I have some information for you.' Does this mean someone is trying to get Kara some inside information for her to report on? Is it a set-up? Is this a way to get her back into CatCo? I will admit, it is hard to know exactly what is going on. But the visuals? Gorgeous.
We start out with this claustrophobic look at Kara. This gives the feel that someone is watching her, or has her in a target. It has a Hitchcock feel to it.
So I do think that Kara is in danger in this episode. And given we here Kohli make a semi-threatening statement about Kara getting him in her crosshairs, my guess is she is looking into him and he isn't happy.
And then we get those rapid shots.
This has to be Kara saving someone from an explosion. There are definitely 2 sets of legs and one cape.
It isn't all Kara. We do see Supergirl in costume, apparently magnetized or stuck to this Kirby-looking device.
A Kryptonian-magnet??
In the quickest of glimpses, we see Lyra a bit out of control.
Is she fighting something? Out of control? Being controlled?
Anyways, I am glad she is still in the show. Hopefully now that the scam aspect of her storyline is over, we can see something more from her. I hope she becomes a bit more three-dimensional.
And then the end shot!
A car explodes and see see Kara, the S-shield exposed through her civilian togs.
My guess is Kara is lured to a car to get 'information' and a car bomb goes off in an attempt to kill her. Hopefully, the killers aren't looking to make sure the job is done. Then we really would have a non-existent secret identity.
Great image!
We have seen this a lot before. But the two places it reminded me of the most was the reveal in Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow or the cover of Superman #41.
We also see some Guardian, some Snapper Carr, and some Lena. Great trailer to keep me interested.
Two more weeks until we get to see it.
