So Maybe You Don’t Know… But 1996 was A Pretty Wild Year...

So Maybe You Don’t Know… But 1996 was A Pretty Wild Year For Comics!

It was 20 years ago and I fancied comics since two years prior (I got into comics in 1994 with The X-Men) and while the internet wasn’t doing the rumbles it makes today (there was no Google back then!) 1996 was a crazy year for comics following the market implosion of 1993. Marvel Comics was one step from closing shop (they declared bankruptcy and licensed character to outside studios). DC was a rock solid steady house that struggled to have a #1 book on the charts. There was a distributors wars. And the main publishers where putting out some of the wildest concepts they had at the time (some of them remain to this day). Luckily former Wizard The Magazine staff writer Jim McLauchlin is here to gives us  a retrospective of these good old days in a couple of articles at Newsarama. You can check them here and here. Being the nostalgia guy that I am I found them really enjoyable!
