rich, damp, soil is earth for the young man, promised opportunity, digging for a beginning. clay dirt is earth for the weary and downtrodden man, fruitless, burdened digging with dust in his teeth. sand is earth for the man struck with nerve of greed, digging seeking a glimmer in the sun indicating a watch left behind, the love of another’s ring. water is earth for the foolish man, he knows not how to dig so he swims, to seek. concrete is earth for the industrious man, he digs to enterprise. when these men stop digging it all becomes earth of woman, she digs because man never found what he was looking for.
